Paso Robles & North County · Licensed since 2003

Licensed for the ground and everything you put on it.

California issues an A license for engineering work, the ground itself, and a B license for putting up a whole structure. Most contractors carry one. C3 Construction and Development carries both, and Charlie Johnson has held a California license without a gap since 2003.

Two classifications, one contractor

Most contractors hold one of these.

A license is not a formality. It is the state naming the kind of work a contractor answered for. These are the two broadest ones California issues, and holding them together means one company can pour what a structure stands on and then build the structure.

A

General Engineering

The ground, the drainage, the concrete

Site work, grading and flatwork. The parts of a job that are finished before most people think the job has started. One customer describes 200 square feet added to a concrete patio, another a new fence and patio. That is this half of the license.

B

General Building

The structure that goes on top

Whole buildings, additions and remodels, where more than two trades have to be organized and one person answers for all of them. A customer credits the company with an art studio built from scratch, and another with the work that saved an older home.

The record carries no additional status line, no suspension, no bond cancellation date and no disclosable complaints. Two details are worth pulling out of it. The contractor is older than the company. Charles Johnson first took a California license as a sole owner in December 2003, incorporated in January 2008, and has held this number ever since, so the twenty-two years are his and the eighteen are the corporation’s. And there is a real workers’ compensation policy in force, not an exemption, which means employees rather than one man with a truck. The board lists that policy against two classification codes, masonry and wallboard installation, which is the paperwork agreeing with what the customers above describe.

A note from the person who built this

Why this page exists

Charlie, you don’t know me. I’m Matthew, and I build websites for contractors on the Central Coast. I built this one before asking, because it is easier to look at a real page than to listen to a pitch.

Here is what I noticed, and it is the whole reason I picked you. Your Google listing has a website link on it. I clicked it. It goes to a page that says “Website Expired”, a Squarespace account that lapsed. So every customer who finds you on Google and taps that link lands on a dead page with your name at the top of it. That is worse than having no website at all, because the link looks like it works right up until someone uses it.

Here is the part that made me sit up. You still own the domain. c3buildingcontractor.com is registered in your name through February 2027, and it was renewed this February, so you are still paying to keep it. It is only the site behind it that went away. That means this page could go on the domain you already have, and the link already sitting on your Google listing would simply start working again. Nothing to change on Google, nothing new to buy.

One thing to do either way. Your listing still says “Own this business?”, which means nobody has claimed it. That is also why the dead link is stuck there: you cannot edit it until you claim the listing. Claiming is free and takes about ten minutes, and it is worth doing whether or not you ever reply to me. It is also why your hours are blank on Google right now.

I’ll be straight about what this page does not have. There is not one photograph of your own work on your listing. The three pictures there were uploaded by a customer, not by you. So there are no photographs here either, because I am not going to fill a builder’s page with stock pictures of somebody else’s houses. It is built out of the two things you do have, which are your license record and what your customers wrote, and the colors are chosen rather than taken from your own material, because there is no material to take them from. Photographs of your own finished work are the single biggest thing missing, and they would change this page more than anything else I could do to it.

Everything here came from public sources: your record from the state, your reviews, and the registration on your own domain. Nothing is stock and nothing is invented. The quotes are word for word. If a detail is wrong, it is wrong because I read it wrong, and I’d want to know.

$950 flat if you want it, live in about a week, and you own everything: the files, the page, all of it. If it is not for you I will take it down, no hard feelings.
